Our diverse group of students have very unique needs and often face very difficult circumstances daily. They preserve through adversity and come to school in hopes of becoming one step closer to graduating. Some of our students are full-time workers, parents, and caregivers for loved ones. During this difficult time of maneuvering through a pandemic, times have become overwhelming for many. A self-regulation room will allow students to use mindful based calming strategies to reach a regulated state to have a successful day.
Our high school students have began learning social emotional learning curriculum this year. In the self-regulation station we will use mindful listening, touch, and movement to get students back to calm. We will also engage in positive-self talk and self-esteem building activities.
Noise canceling headphones will allow them to focus on breathing techniques and be present in the moment. The Bluetooth within the headphone will allow staff to play calming music for the individual student, as requested. We often listen to calming nature sounds such as ocean waves and rainfalls. The activities that requirement movement will allow safe social distancing while being interactive physically.
