I am requesting a complete set of BOB books for beginning reader. After students have learned a specific phonics skill, such as the short /a/ sound, they will apply their skill in a book. Learning a phonics skill is of no use unless it is practiced in text. Decodable readers will help students apply the skill of short /a/. We learn what short /a/ says in words, then we do "word work", building the short /a/ words, and then we apply the skill to text. We may practice the words bat, can, tap, sat, Nan. These words are then read in stories that emphasize this skill. They may read "Nan is a bat. She sat and sat. She can tap." It's very exciting to see children read new words and understand patterns, especially our students who are learning English!
