A reading rug is needed for comfortable independent reading and group read-aloud. I have also included letter magnets for my struggling readers to practice phonics and phonemic awareness independently and in small group settings. Who are books are a great way to ingrate social studies in the ELA classroom. My students do not have a specific social studies course, so I want to make sure to include some historical figures and events into the classroom. I would love to read these books to my students on a comfortable rug instead of them sitting in their desks.
