Teaching life skills helps students be prepared to contribute to their families, communities, and their future! One of our main areas of focus is on food and nutrition. Students will benefit from knowing how to prepare safe, healthy, and cost efficient meals. Our classroom has no culinary equipment or sinks to teach proper safe food handling and hygiene procedures such as hand washing. It is also very difficult for large class sizes to see something being demonstrated, which is essential for student engagement. Live demonstrations where students get to participate and practice the techniques learned about is the most effective way for students to learn. Applied knowledge is key! By donating to our project, you would be providing our classroom with a portable demonstration table, sink, and mirror so all students in the room can be engaged and participate safely in our curriculum. We could use this area for demonstrations, labs, and practice. You would be helping the curriculum come alive as students see, hear, smell, touch, and taste food. This equipment would allow our curriculum to go from disengaging videos and lectures to hands-on, applied, and engaging projects!
