Right now, our counseling center is a basic space. It has stiff, old seating and doesn't have a spot to organize flyers and brochures for families to receive more information about community and school programs. When students return to in-person instruction, they will have the opportunity to visit me in the counseling center. Unfortunately, this is especially uncomfortable for students with the current chairs in the room. We have old, torn steel chairs. I'd like to make the counseling center comfortable and inviting, to send the message to students that their emotional wellbeing is important and valued at school. When students know that their wellbeing is genuinely valued, they will be more receptive to learning at school. The environment plays a role in this, and more comfortable seating and an updated counseling center is an important step in improving the environment.
