Engaging students in a social studies classroom is no easy feat. In a subject that is typically seen as boring, I make every effort to make it the complete opposite of that. We complete many activities and projects that engage students and allow them to be creative and have fun with the curriculum.
This project will allow my students to use their creativity to host our school’s first World’s Fair in several years.
I have always dreamed of hosting a World’s Fair, but have struggled finding the adequate resources to do so. I want to ensure that students in my class have all supplies necessary to create their projects to the best of their ability. While many students are able to purchase and bring their own supplies to complete projects, there are several students who do not have the same ability. This project will provide supplies to students who are unable to bring their own supplies for this project and many other projects to come. The students will use the coloring supplies (markers, Sharpies, pens) to create colorful presentation boards that will be on display for the school to see. The letters will be used as titles on the boards. We currently do not have access to a colored printer, so the students will use the printer, printer ink, and paper to print photos for their boards. The glue will be used to attach all elements to the boards.
As my 7th graders wrap up world geography this year, they will be able to use their creativity and understanding of the world from both 6th and 7th grade geography to host an event the whole school can participate in. It is something I know they will enjoy and will bring a lot of excitement into our classroom.
