Books are an essential part of the learning environment for my kiddos--whether during read-alouds or independent reading and/or picture walks, these books add to the lessons they are already learning, enhance their understanding of subjects of interest, and provide additional opportunities to learn outside of the provided curriculum. Not only will they learn about the galaxies far far away, but they will be introduced to books about feelings--a hard concept for my students, stories of inclusion and different cultures, and how to be kind in a world that tries to be anything but. With these books at the fingertips of my students, their world view could expand outside what they know through traveling galaxies, visiting different cultures, exploring their senses, and learning that even though we are different in many ways, we are all the same in many facets. Not only will these books expand my student's view of the world around them, they will also help my students navigate that world with better understanding. The lessons provided through the curriculum and other educational avenues will be enhanced through these books that cover subjects of interest as well as subjects that are difficult for my students to comprehend without a little extra help.
