Learning an instrument is all about the fundamentals. Being in band is about having fun playing music together. These two ideas come together in our ensemble warm up routine, which is the foundation of our learning in every rehearsal. (It's no coincidence that our method book of choice is titled *Foundations* for Superior Performance!) This year our band doubled in size but our classroom budget was cut in half. It's unrealistic for me to purchase a copy of our method book for each student and inequitable to place that financial burden on families. My goal is to establish a classroom set of method books that will follow students through their four years of high school - starting with this year's enormous 9th grade class!
