Each year, my students choose a new theme for learning. This year we are learning all about Japan- its history, its culture, and the written and spoken language. These materials will help students learn hiragana and basic phrases and vocabulary. My goal with this theme is for the students to learn something new about the world. It is very unlikely my students will ever get to visit another country- let alone visit Japan which holds great wonder for many of them. By teaching them the language, history, geography, and culture of this far-away country, they will get to experience a place they may never get to visit. In this time of distance learning, it will be these activities which students remember. I am bringing a part of the world to them!
