Title: Wordy Wizards My Students I teach at a Title 1 school with a diverse population. My first-grade class is made up of English language learners, gifted students, and students with special needs who all excited about learning. Some of my students are in my classroom physically, while others are learning via a virtual platform. As an IB campus, we aim to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people through a challenging programme of international education. We encourage our students to inquire about the world around them. Students are naturally curious and it is my job to foster and nurture that sense of wonder. My goal is to create an environment where students feel safe to ask and learn. My Project I currently only have one dictionary in my classroom. Due to the guidelines that keep our students safe, sharing dictionaries is not an option. I would like to have enough dictionaries for all of my students to have their own. Learning to use a dictionary is an important skill that will help our students expand their vocabulary. A wide vocabulary is one of the biggest assets a child can have that can help them across different subject areas. Using a dictionary helps students with concepts like spelling, word meaning, alphabetical order and finding word patterns. The dictionaries I am requesting are appropriate for first graders. The word choice is age appropriate and it includes pictures for our visual learners. Help me provide my students with their own kid-friendly dictionary.
