Many times, 8th graders at my school have entered health not knowing what their body looks like, let alone how the physiology of it works! My goal for this human sexuality and education unit is to provide a safe space for students to ask questions and get to know their bodies! By doing so, I will be able to prepare them for high school, tackling puberty, focusing on their mental health, and educating about preventing STIs and unwanted pregnancies. It's simply not enough to put a textbook in front of students and expect any of the information in tiny print font to enter their brains and stay there (the decision making part of brains isn't fully developed until 25-years-old anyways!) By using physical materials and demonstration, students will grasp information much better, making a positive impact on their human sexuality education.
