The rekenrek will be used to count votes and work on fluency in grouping by tens. The fraction manipulatives will be used to create ratios of the two leading presidential candidates. We will use the real voting results, class voting, school voting, and community voting results. Students will use the results, analyze them and be assigned to encourage members in their community using social media to go vote, and persuade the results. Students will be provided real world story problems about voting. Students will need to determine if the story problem is asking for a fraction, comparison, or total. Students will select the appropriate manipulative to solve the problem. Through these various voting activities, students will see the power in numbers and voice when persuading the elections.
