My students have endless energy and require breaks. It is especially important that these breaks offer desired options. Since many of my students can't read, simply giving them a book for their break causes much more frustration than relaxation. Also having some legos would supply students a sensory activity which many require. These books and tools provide students a quiet, safe and engaging option for regulating or deescalating. Also providing students many options gives them a feeling of control. Which is especially important for my students. I want to be able to foster a feeling of independence and providing activities that students can do independently (without frustration) is key.
