The 2020-21 school year has started off like no other. Nearly two thirds of our students are learning in a completely remote model. As librarian, with a limited budget, I seek creative ways to provide experiences for my students to meet and hear from authors in an attempt to inspire them to develop their literacy skills and get them excited about reading. Our remote students unfortunately do not even have access to the school library at this time. We have an exciting opportunity to experience a virtual author visit with Ms. Fleur Bradley. This project will allow every one of my 4th and 5th grade students to own their own copy of Ms. Bradley's book. She will talk with my students about the writing process and "how to write a mystery." With a high interest level and diverse main characters, I anticipate this book will be highly engaging for my students. My hope is that the book along with the virtual author visit inspires their creativity both now and into the future.
