A document camera will allow my online students the opportunity to see in real time as I demonstrate a math problem or highlight important supporting details in a paragraph. This tool gives students the ability to see an object or text clearly from anywhere in the classroom or from behind a screen on the other side of town. Being able to see the process of the multi-steps of long division, highlight important parts of a diagram, or edit an essay are critically important for comprehension and understanding. In our current situation, when I solve a multi-step math problem, I hold my spiral notebook up to my laptop camera. With each new step, I remove the paper from the screen and repeat. This is rather distracting, and the delay can cause a lack of engagement. A document camera would limit the distraction and create more engagement with the work on screen.
