Oklahoma students, grades 3-6, have the opportunity to vote in a process that will conclude with an author winning the Oklahoma Sequoyah Book Award. Students are required to read at least three books from the nomination list. Having the books in our library, gives the students a chance to take part in a special event. Giving students a purpose to read for enjoyment and to complete this special task, motivates them to read more and read often. As the students finish a book from the Sequoyah nominee list, they discuss their favorites and make recommendation to their classmates. It all contributes to happy, engaged readers.
