We use Ten Frames in class to help students visualize as they develop a deeper understanding of numbers and build that conceptual learning. Using Ten-frames helps students quickly remember groups of objects. Ten-frames is a good tool to teach students how to count from 0 to 10 and use it with different colored counters; helps to understand sums and the number up to 10, as well as to identify more and more concepts. When people ask me why I consider them so important, I say that one of the most important things is that this manipulator provides a visual and concrete understanding of the mathematical process. Ten-frames give students the opportunity to work with the numbers and not just memorize them. Developing a basic number sense for numbers through ten is the prelude to developing a sense of ten as a basis for both place value and mental calculations, giving students the opportunity to explore larger numbers while working in depth on tens.
