With these materials/tools students will be able to design and build a community garden for not only the school community but also the surrounding community. Using a 80sf space, 8th graders will work together with community members to build a greenhouse, refurbish an already existing shed, build raised beds, plant vegetables and flowers, and learn about sustainable gardening. With this project, students will learn building skills while building an 8x12 greenhouse and raised beds, gardening skills, and the importance of companion planting, composting, water collecting and harvesting of plants. Best of all, students will work together and learn what it takes to get along and build something beautiful. The outcome of the project will result in a community garden!
