When low-income, first-generation students are given one less expense to worry about, they can focus more on becoming superstudents. Having been a low-income, first-generation student myself, music was my way of finding peace and happiness when college became difficult, so my speaker quickly became one of my best companions. Other college essentials such as a microwave gave me an ability to prepare my own food and save my money instead of constantly buying meals on campus. Alarm clocks and laundry detergent also help ensure that students are on-time to class and able to wear clean clothes especially when not every student can afford a cellphone or new clothes.
