Graphing calculators are an important tool needed to succeed in higher level courses in STEM as well as in placement tests for higher education. Not all students can afford these calculators and if I had a set of calculators in my classroom all students would have access to this most important tool. These calculators will not only help students see themselves in these advanced stem courses that once seemed well out of their reach, but these calculators will help them achieve success in these courses. The science department and mathematics department have been collaborating so that we can stay consistent on showing students how to use these tools strategically before they enter AP courses. Students will use these calculators to perform algorithms so that they can focus on making sense of the problem and persevering, reasoning abstractly and quantitatively, modeling with mathematics, etc. Students will be able to check out calculators to students so that they can focus on the big ideas.
