Each student comes with unique learning strengths! At the second grade level, one of the strongest is the kinesthetic learning mode! Being able to explore their world through tools of manipulation strengthens brain growth, and contributes to a deeper learning experience. Using legos for stem science and math are very popular with students! Without realizing it, they will use their love of legos to grow in important basic academic skills! Lego buiding blocks used for math can teach number sense. Students can build a number line, learn to skip count, and strengthen place value skills using lego mathematics lesson plans! In science, students can create engineering projects and build classroom experiments around real-life problems! One of my favorite literacy/science crossovers is using the childrens story of The Three Little Pigs to build all three houses and discover why bricks are a better choice! Wind and weather is one of our second grade standards. Exploring theories can add immensely to the enjoyment of learning!
