Many of my students are reading at a second-grade level or below and have difficulty relating to/connecting with literature. I'm a first-year teacher and have not established my own classroom library yet. I want to purchase comics, graphic novels, books that address trauma and mental health as experienced by teens, and books that inspire. I want to help my students build authentic connections to literature and to realize the power of stories and the written word. I want to stock my classroom with literature that is relatable and accessible to my students.
