My stagecraft class is a unique space where a plethora of diverse students come together and build sets for plays and musicals (2 shows per year). Most of these students have no previous connection to the theatre and take the course as an elective, but by the time they move on, not only have they gained insight into the teamwork and problem solving it takes to produce theatre, but they have also learned the basics of measurement, power tool operation, and building construction. This course was created almost 10 years ago with generous funding from our district and, as would be expected, our tools are giving out on us. I originally ordered equipment that was cost-effective so I could purchase as much as possible, but the time has come to upgrade most of the power tools we use on a daily basis. I've made the careful selection of Milwaukee 12v tools not only because I use them at home and have familiarity with them, but because the small battery size makes for a more universal experience for the young women and men in my course that may not be as comfortable with power tools. The saws I'm requesting are lightweight, small, and easy to control when we are carving plywood for set decor. They will be the first step in a long road to upgrading failing equipment and ensuring that hundreds of students can use the saws for decades to come.
