American literature is most often centered around white males. White males make up less than 36% of the country's population. With an ever-increasing diverse student body, it is so important for students to see themselves and be represented in stories. By providing a vibrant story that represents students; these boys and girls will have one more book to add to their home library collection- one more book that deepens their love of reading. For students who do see themselves frequently in literature, it is dire for them to see and learn about people who do not look like them. By providing students with a more diverse literature collection, we can help shape these minds into more empathetic, accepting, and loving individuals.
