The materials of this project (a variety of Rubik Cubes, and several mat timers) will allow students at our school to participate in an activity (Club) that is both challenging cognitively and allows them social interaction with others. Pandemic events and distance learning have isolated students and more than ever, middle school students, need a challenge that will promote determination, perseverance and positive experiences. Speed cubing is an event that is gaining popularity across the country. There is a definite interest in this activity, with student's eager to participate and give it a try. This activity can be done both in person with social distancing and with distance learning platforms. The only thing holding us back is the equipment. In addition to the social/emotional benefits of Cubing, students can accomplish increased competence in the academic areas of math and science.
