In our first novel study together, my students will be learning about theme and perspective. We are looking to read a book that challenges us to step into life beyond our own perspectives. This means bringing diverse voices into our classroom through literature. "Home of the Brave" gives voice to refugees, people of color, and those experiencing poverty. As we read the book and delve into its themes, we can appreciate cultural differences while common threads in the universal aspects of being human. When students read diverse viewpoints in literature, they learn to see the world with wisdom and empathy. In turn, they grow into citizens who make decisions that benefit our society. We hope to make the world a better place, one story at a time!
