I am developing a fishing club for our fourth through sixth graders so that they can experience the beauty and magic of our Colorado high country. I am asking you for these fly tying materials so that I can start them on learning how to make flies during the winter. Because of Covid and the cold weather, the safest activity we can do right now, is learning how to tie flies. Even though our students live in the shadows of the Rocky Mountains, most of them never venture into the mountains to experience the joy of nature. Fishing connects a person to nature, like no other pursuit. My students will feel the joy of being outside and the confidence that comes with catching a fish on a fly that they will design and tie. The releasing of the fish and the momentary connection one feels with another life, will help build a deeper sense of empathy.
