After a long year of hybrid/online/masked mode, my students need the chance to TALK to and INTERACT with their peers about what they are reading! This book club will allow students to read and discuss high-interest literature in the safe, relaxed atmosphere of the library. In addition, because studies show that students are more likely to re-read books that they own, at the end of each month, participating students will get to keep their books. You will not only contribute to student reading, but you will also be helping avid readers build their own personal libraries that they can continue to enjoy for years to come. Book clubs offer a way for students who don't usually participate in school activities to be a part of something. Those students also get the chance to analyze plots, express their opinions, and share their conclusions about something they are passionate about--reading! By contributing to this book club, you are providing a place for students to cultivate a lifelong love of reading and learning. As the moderator of this mostly student-led book club, I will facilitate and model life skills, such as conducting respectful discussions and urging students to be self-aware about offering speaking time to all participants.
