I would love to fill my classroom library with a variety of diverse novels. I believe that it is important to provide students books that they can connect with and see themselves in. I have many different cultures and sexualities represented in my classroom and not enough diverse books to place in each of their hands. I would also love to expose my non-diverse students to the diversities of the world and ideally, they will become more accepting of others. This year, the other English teachers in my building and I are attempting to adjust our curriculum to fit our diverse classes. While we are able to read diverse texts as a class, it is also important to give them diverse books to read on their own. They will be able to borrow the books from my classroom, and return them when they are done reading.
