As the assistive technology lead in my district, many of the students I serve lack the ability to communicate verbally. Depending on their cognitive level, they often benefit from using an iPad to communicate their wants and needs. Older models of iPads allow students to use communication apps to communicate by touching icons. However, the newer iPad Pro has facial recognition features that will allow students who lack motor skills to use various facial expressions to select icons with increased speed and communicate more effectively, both at school and at home. This will provide them with greater independence and help them to achieve both academic and other life goals.
