Our students are special learners. We have specific times throughout the day that allow us to teach skills that students at a general education school or in a general education classroom may not need. Communication is integrated into every single part of the day to help students increase their interactions with staff and students. At the same time, many activities can be monotonous, and the students excel and bring such excitement to social skills time. During this time, we are able to play games and learn things like turn-taking, sharing, communication, being a good sport, and often find new things the students are interested in. The headphones will help to meet sensory needs. Classroom materials will help to adapt learning materials and meet students' needs in the classroom. I'm sure you've heard that students with Autism are often not very social and don't desire interaction. Let me tell you, you'd be wrong. They really just need a common way to portray their desire for interaction. They also deserve to have experiences that a neurotypical student would get without an adult thinking too hard about it because they would be able to share their desire for such experiences.
