In a society that is very focused on technology and gaming, it has become increasingly difficult to motivate students to read - both in the classroom and in their free time. The books that I would like to purchase through this project have been chosen to use with students in the classroom and at home. Graphic novels have become extremely popular with middle school students, yet the cost of these books makes purchasing them for classroom use more prohibitive. I know my students would devour the graphic novels that I have selected for them. In addition, I have chosen some novels that we could use to read and discuss in our classroom in the form of literature circles. Reading a common book with other students gives them the opportunity to talk with others about what they have read and guide their own learning.
