This selection of engaging young adult novels addresses both historical events and current issues, weaving together the connections and implications between past and present. Through reading and discussing these novels with their classmates, students will explore the lingering issues of race in America and how they can engage in anti-racist action. Students will have the opportunity to select their own text from this group of novels, read independently and discuss in peer-led book clubs. While students are learning from home this year, these texts will provide for rich discussions about timely topics and build community among students.
