This year I want to grow a classroom library that pushes the thinking of my students through a Social Issues Book Club. With a range of social conversations in our world, I want to provide a safe environment for my students to explore what these issues are and how they present. These books will help enhance knowledge and understanding through American literature. The students will have a choice as to which Social Issue they would like to explore through one of the books. These books will provide the opportunity to explore today's Social Issues through literature. In Middle School, students start to see and feel some of the weight these issues have. For example, the pressures they experience in school, the expectations they are told to fill, and the multiple relationship challenges. The goal of this project is for the students to have a toolbox with strategies when approaching some of these Social Issues. For this Unit to be successful a variety of books are needed to support teaching and learning.
