Front Desk, by Kelly Yang, tells the story of Mia Tang and her family, who immigrated to the U.S. from China in hopes for a better life. The struggles that the family faces will be relatable and eye opening to my diverse bunch of students. This book not only covers topics such as immigration, racism, and friendship, but it will show my students how writing can change their life through the book's heroine, Mia. I could not think of a book that would engage my students more. This book is a must read for my class and I would love to have a class set so they can read along!
