During the era of Covid-19 there are a lot of safety limitations on what kinds of activities students can do in a music class! We currently are not able to sing or to share instruments, without posing a potential risk to students and teachers. In order to allow students to still participate in making music together in ensemble from we need to be able to have enough instruments, and mallets in this case, for each student to use each class. This is where your help comes in in creating an Orff ensemble using barred instruments and mallets! I want to give a my students a chance to develop their musical skills as a way to explore new ways of collaborating with each other and to express themselves creatively. These two ideas not only will help the students individually but will be able to turn around and inspire other students and teachers at the school. We need new ways of encouraging creativity and positivity during this trying time at school. This ensemble will meet once a week, and my hope is by the end of the first quarter of the school year to give the school a small-scale performance on our instruments. The performance may be via live-stream or video, but will be a chance for the kids to show off what they have learned and to give the gift of music and camaraderie to the rest of the school!
