All of my students struggle with communicating their wants and needs. Since last March, I have been working with them virtually reading books and using follow up activities. The students point to the correct answer on the screen or verbally respond to a question if they have that ability. However, they require more opportunities for communication. Teaching students with special needs through a virtual setting is not academically or socially appropriate for them. My students have missed hands on language activities where they can manipulate the materials physically or by telling me what to do. Through the use of an Osmo stand, I am hoping to provide my students with the ability to see toys, such as figures, wind-up toys, and play-doh be manipulated. By providing this instruction, their parents will be able to copy my movements with the same or similar materials at home to help engage their child. The Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards will help me provide stimulating language rich materials for my students. The laminating machine, laminating sheets, Velcro, ink and paper will be utilized to make visual supports to aid in communication.
