These materials such as a sensory fiber optic light, liquid sensory floor tile, glow-in-the-dark stars, and a star glow lamp to illuminate the sensory room will provide a calming space for the students to calm down or reset in if they are having a rough day. The students learn best when they are able to work for rewards, and it can be difficult to focus and make it through a lesson when the work is frustrating. The floor tile will be helpful for something to squish and move with their foot or hands to calm down and think, and the lights will provide something calming to look at and focus on when trying to calm down. The stars will add to the atmosphere of being in "outer space" and provide an environment for the students to forget where they are for a minute and focus on breathing and calming down tactics. This room will also provide a great space for reward time, or relaxing time after work is done. Welcome in....sensory room! This room will be a great resource for student learning as they can calm down, take a few minutes to get in the proper learning head-space, and then come back into the classroom academics area ready to learn and tackle the tough stuff! I'm really excited for this closet/room to be added in my classroom and I can't wait to see what the students like about it.
