Research shows that when students learn and move their bodies at the same time, the learning will be deeper. Movement in learning actually carves out new brain pathways. These pathways include cognitive skills, such as memorization and recognizing patterns. When cognitive skills are taught to mastery, they play a very positive role in the overall success of a learner. Manipulatives reinforce cognitive skills. They provide a fun venue for practice. Using manipulatives makes math and numbers concrete and visual. Students love using manipulatives. Teachers love helping students to learn math with manipulatives!
