Our students have excelled at singing and rhythm exercises through various percussion instruments. This is the logical next step - to develop and maintain a keyboard program. Piano studies, because it envelops all of what a great music student needs - music theory, notation, rhythm, and melodic knowledge - would help our school give these middle school students a complete music program. Keyboard studies goes past just performance, as it also takes us into areas of composition, which is the ultimate expression of musical understanding and creativity. Reading music is key to this and the keyboard's use of both clefs, as well as all possibilities available to us in music theory, is vital to developing this skill.
