Students receive their own personal copy of this powerful novel and memoir of a leader, overcome, and exquisite storyteller who beat all odds with a sharp mind, dedicated work, commitment to education, and a heart for human beings. This work supports students in untangling the complex work ahead of them in appreciating and advocating for equal Civil rights and rebuilding our society. All students will participate in a research project as part of this literacy work involving self-selected areas of focus on learning about the work currently underway and proposing additional solutions in the years ahead.
