Students will use the dictionaries to help improve spelling and the understanding of meanings of words. They will gain independence by looking up words, instead of always asking the teacher "how do I spell..." Students in class and those learning remotely will have access to these dictionaries. We teach dictionary skills, but it is hard to make the connections when they can't hold a dictionary in their hands. I want them to learn and use the skills that they won't get using spell-check on a computer. Dictionaries are especially important as we don't use computers in school.
