I try to surround my students with opportunities inside and outside our classroom to be curious observers of the world around them. Our classroom is filled with natural curiosities, including living things, and nature and wonder are a big part of our class culture. We have one stereomicroscope (my own) that students use to look at bugs, leaves, seeds, flowers, rocks, and other natural and manmade objects they bring into the classroom. When a student brings in something to look at, their curiosity is contagious. Two additional microscopes will increase my students' opportunities to see things up close and expand their intellectual curiosity.
