Our classroom is a community built from different cultures. Although my students are great sharers, I also want to provide for them meaningful experiences through books. Through this project, my students will be able to hold these books in their hands in a small group setting. Also in this project are books that I will read aloud, which will lead to great whole class discussions. My students will be able to see how various cultures influence communities over time. A large focus in second grade social studies is studying how cultures influence communities. I believe these books will give my students opportunities to study cultures different than their own.
