Sensory stimulation (fidgets, flexible seating, and weighted lap blankets) are crucial for my students to feel safe, and ready to learn in our classroom. Flexible seating with floor pillows allows my special needs kindergarten students to feel secure and comfortable at school . This seating also allows me to create a "calming corner" for my students who need a short respite before tackling their academic day again. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are able to use classroom resources to calm themselves or when they require sensory support to continue learning. When they are calm and focused they are able to complete more work and stay engaged with instruction. My students are noticeably calmer, less disruptive and ready to learn when given access to sensory stimulation and a calming area. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options, and access to a calming area of the classroom which helps to make them more effective learners. The pillows are able to be sanitized daily giving my students comfort and calming options during the stress of returning to school after a prolonged absence. These will be extremely beneficial for some students who are separating from caregivers and returning to school. They are lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of our classroom. Flexible seating, access to sensory input and a calming area of the classroom will have a tremendously positive impact on my students!
