We use mentor texts to model good literature and literature strategies. Students need to be able to apply these to their own books of choosing. I want my students to be able to choose 2-3 books that they can develop these strategies. Every couple of weeks they switch the books in their bags; giving greater exposure to reading and knowledge. They need access to books on their level in fiction and non fiction. It is also a proven fact that reader’s choice can help a student invest more and be able to read at a higher level. We also need a bookshelf to store the books.
