I have discovered that many of my students do not have books at home and that their parents may not know how to help them succeed in school. I would like to support family involvement in learning and a love for literacy at home. I would like to provide each of my students with three books that have characters that represent them. I have 17 students who are Somali, and they will all receive three books that are written in both Somali and English or represent Somali/Muslim characters. I have one student who is African-American, and I have chosen 3 books with characters that look like him and celebrate who he is. My hope is that parents will read these books with their children and further support their learning.
