I am a first-year teacher in need of a classroom library! The kiddos I teach are Native American and live on a remote reservation in northern Minnesota. Stories teach us about the world and ourselves and I want my students to see themselves and their culture reflected in books I read to them. I also want the books in our classroom to inspire them to read, teach them a growth mindset, and social, emotional skills. All the books I chose for this project meet at least one of these criteria! Help me get my students reading books that they can relate to, learn from, and books that excite them! I am lucky enough to have students in my first ever class that I student taught last year. I can't wait to continue growing the relationships I have already created. These kiddos make me laugh, challenge me, and make me so happy. Having some of my old students means that I know the books they love to read (Elephant and Piggie books, Dog Man, Thelma the Unicorn). It also means I know some of the challenges they face in their home lives and I am eager to continue helping them grow their growth mindset and social-emotional skills. I appreciate any help getting our classroom library stocked!
