From the beginning of my teaching career, I knew the importance of meeting a child's social and emotional needs. Ten years ago, my Master's thesis during student teaching provided students with self-regulating tools and techniques to help them cope with their emotions. I have continued my mission to provide students with what I deem the most important piece of education; social-emotional learning and character development. I am eager to put forth the time and effort needed to grow on a professional and personal level to better meet the needs of my current and future students. Teaching kids how to better respond to life’s challenges inspires me to better myself every day. Attending a Responsive Classroom Four-Day Summer Institute will equip me with the knowledge needed to help my students improve their social-emotional competencies. I will develop my knowledge of tools and strategies to help my students improve their self-management, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. Ultimately, attending the four-day institution will allow me to expand my toolbox of strategies, skills, and best practices to guide children along their social-emotional and character development journey.
