Reading is the most fundamental skill for student success that we can possibly teach. By third grade, we are not just teaching students to read more critically, but fostering a life long love of reading. In my class, free choice reading is always a favorite time of the day.
It is my goal to create a beautiful reading corner in my class that will be a cozy place for my students to lose themselves in a good book! Children love being able to choose a book they love and to find a comfortable spot in the room to read! I want to arrange the bookshelves to make a book nook, with flexible seating options, a bright and snug rug, and books arranged by subject.
Right now, I have one, long and ancient bookshelf for my classroom library. I cannot move it, or it will fall apart. I have to put books under two of the corners just to make it sturdy. I cannot adjust the shelves, so some of my picture books are too tall to fit. I have plenty of amazing books, but am running out of room to display them for my amazing students!
Please help me give my students the classroom library they deserve! Thank you for your consideration.
